GLP-2, formally known as Tirzepatide, is a synthetic peptide combining the benefits of two powerful hormones—glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) which is classified as a dual agonist or GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist. It acts by mimicking the effects of two natural hormones—GLP-1 and GIP—which belong to the incretin hormone family. Incretins are hormones that are released by the gut in response to food intake and play important roles in regulating glucose metabolism, insulin secretion, and appetite control. Tirzepatide may help suppress “food noise” by curbing addiction to food, sugar and alcohol.
